Daily Dining News: Blackbird (9th St. between J & K) Opens Wednesday*

Blackbird Kitchen & Bar is an exciting new restaurant that focuses on "gourmet food at hipster prices" will open this week, reports Brandon Darnell in Sac Press.

A soft opening this weekend for friends and family is planned to give the staff at Blackbird Kitchen & Bar some hands-on experience and feedback before opening to the public on Wednesday.

“It’s been a lot of work, but everything is turning out really nice,” said Kevin O’Connor, chef de cuisine for the restaurant.

The restaurant will serve dinner only at first, but plans to expand to lunch soon. It fills the space that used to house Gaesorn Thai.

Counter Culture: Pearl a filling sidetrack at the Red Hawk Casino - The dinner menu is lengthy and impressive, and we managed to wrangle an item from the kitchen. The juicy and tender pan-fried slices of beef tenderloin in the "Peking steak filet" were covered in a zingy bell pepper sauce delivered waves of flavors. Upscale Seasons 52 restaurant/wine bar coming to Arden Fair mall - Seasons 52, an upscale Florida-based restaurant and wine bar chain, is coming later this year to the Arden Fair mall site that was vacated by Fresh Choice in January. The new dining spot will probably open in October, following a major renovation of the space at the front of the mall, next to the BJ's restaurant that debuted there a year ago. Lots of sports and grub - Clubhouse 56 is a sports bar with a menu of Big Food. We sat in the Theater Room, dominated by a TV screen the size of a soccer field. At the other end of the bar is the picnic table-filled Garage, where one of the original signs from Shakey's pizzeria is stashed. Keep on trucking - Here's an unlikely candidate for fastest-growing business of the year: Drewski's Hot Rod Kitchen...Last month, he opened the Republic Bar and Grill at 908 15th St. in Sacramento and he's soon extending its hours to include lunch.
