Daily Dining News: Yellowbill Cafe by Magpie is Now Open

Magpie Cafe's second location, Yellowbill, opened earlier this week at the corner of 14th & O streets, reports Brandon Darnell in Sac Press.

The target clientele is people who want to drop by and have a light lunch or a baked dessert.

“We want to have options for people to have a light lunch for under $10,” Roehr said...

Some of the food at Yellowbill will be reminiscent of Magpie, but Roehr said the two businesses are separate concepts, and the items of one won’t necessarily be on the menu of the other.

Try It: Crepeville's Apple & Cheese Crepe - I stopped into cheery Crepeville in midtown this week for lunch and opted for the restaurant’s apple and cheddar cheese crepe. The thinly-sliced fruit and melted cheese were tucked neatly inside the crepe, embellished with a generous sprinkling of cinnamon and brown sugar – a sweet-savory mélange of textures and flavors. Huggiebears hits the sweet spot in Old Sacramento with cupcakes, cheesecakes, brownies and more - Cupcakes, cheesecakes, brownies and other sweets are on the menu at a new pastry shop in Old Sacramento, Huggiebears Sweets and Treats. The business, which opened July 18 at 904 Second St., was born of the recipes from owner Jim Austin, whose cheesecakes and other desserts have won numerous awards at the California State Fair and county fairs for his amateur baking. Sacramento Burger Battle is Two Weeks Away - I know I will be struggling to taste 15 different burgers, even if they are just sample size.  The battle for Sacramento's best burger will take place at Raley Field on National Cheeseburger Day, September 18th. Fifteen restaurants are participating and to think that even more restaurants wanted in! Patterned after the Denver Burger Battle, the Sacramento Burger Battle is not only for bragging rights, but also for the winning entry to go on to compete in the burger division of Adam Richman’s World Food Championships in Las Vegas in November. Dugout Deli - If you're like me, when you go to buy a sandwich you want your money's worth. Nothing irks me more than plunking down $$ and getting a sandwich that looks like it was put together during the Great Depression- stale bread, skimpy produce and a few pieces of see through meat. So when my friend Sheri invited me to check out a new sandwich shop in her hood, The Dugout Deli, I was a bit skeptical (especially when I heard it used to be a Mr. Pickle's location) but I decided to give it a go. Boy, did the Dugout Deli end up surprising me! Clean store with a cute baseball theme, friendly staff, good value and most importantly a tasty sandwich. They also have several comfy booths to plunk down in and watch the game while you enjoy your chips and sandwich. Ally Gaffan on A Girl & Her Fork.

Sammy's Rockin' Island Bar & Grill - Marianne McClary was in Old Roseville checking out the space that will soon be Sammy's Rockin' Island Bar & Grill. On Good Day Sac.
