A lot of restaurants and local businesses have contributed to help rebuild McKinley Park, which was damaged by an alleged arsonist in late July. Off the top of my head, I know that Ambrosia and The Firehouse/Ten 22 contributed to the effort.
Sacramento's mobile trucks are getting in on the action by hosting a fundraiser this weekend to raise money to rebuild the playground, reports Brandon Darnell in Sac Press.
The free event hosted by SactoMoFo will be held at Sutter’s Landing Park at 28th and B streets from noon - 4 p.m. Saturday, and at least 14 food trucks are scheduled to attend.
Vendors include Drewski’s Hot Rod Kitchen, Miz Shirley Marie’s, Simply Southern Foods, Brickoven Pizza, Annie’s Sno Biz Hawaiian Shave Ice, Smoothie Patrol, OMG Burger, Om Karmabile, Volks Waffle California, Swabbies, Tacos Chavinda, Dave’s Dawgs, Coast to Coast Sandwiches and Mama Kim on the Go...
Event coordinator Steve Swindel said proceeds from sales at each food truck will be donated to rebuilding McKinley Park’s playground, as well as a portion of the sales from a beer and wine garden that will be on-site.

Food trucks and restaurant chefs to collaborate and compete - Who says restaurant chefs and food truck owners have to be bitter enemies? Sure, the politics surrounding the local mobile food truck scene can be a little thick, given the difficulties thus far in making current city ordinances more food truck friendly - and even some infighting within food truck owners themselves. An upcoming food competition and battle just may be the "We Are the World" moment that's much needed. Zia's Delicatessen to open Sacramento location - Zia’s Delicatessen, a downtown Davis favorite, is preparing to open a location in downtown Sacramento next month. The Sacramento location is on the ground floor of the State Education Building, and facing the intersection of 14th and O streets. The space had previously been Spicy Pickle. Taste Restaurant invited to cook at James Beard House in NY - The highly praised Taste Restaurant in Plymouth recently received some news that floored nearly everyone on the staff: It has been invited to cook a dinner at the James Beard House in New York City. This is a tremendous honor for the restaurant and it will surely bring more much-deserved attention to the restaurant.
