Hashi: Outside the bento box - Hashi has happening happy hours. Half-price healing malt beverages, $1 nigiri one night, half-price rolls on another. There is discrepancy between Hashi’s Web site and table placards as to which nights are which, but there is unanimity among smart diners and happy-hour habitués that Hashi holds a spot high on the affable and affordable list. Owners of upscale Sacramento restaurant Mason's plan switch to comfort food - Mason's, the upscale, California cuisine spot at 15th and L streets, will close in a few weeks, be renovated and reopen in mid-March as Cafeteria 15L. Bob Shallit in the Sac Bee.
Like father, like son (Second item) - After months of delays due to construction issues, Luis Leyva Jr. is opening his Luis Jr. Mexican eatery today at 29th and J streets. He expects a crowd filled with people who remember his late father's Alhambra Boulevard eatery – Luis's Mexican Food – which closed in 2004 after nearly 40 years in business. OneSpeed to Add Patio Dining - The owner of OneSpeed Pizza in East Sac is installing an iron railing on the sidewalk outside his restaurant to create a small dining patio. Amarin Thai Cuisine shuts down - Downtown lunch diners with a hunger for Thai food have been surprised by the abrupt closure of Amarin Thai Cuisine on 12th and I streets. Acknowledged as Sacramento's first Thai restaurant, Amarin opened in 1983 and known for its broad menu and brisk lunch service. But, the scene was one of confusion today as would-be lunch diners arrived at Amarin, only to find the restaurant closed. Chris Macias in the Sac Bee.
