So maybe there really are too many sushi places in midtown.
Hashi, the sibling to the sushi joint Nishiki, closed the weekend of Feb. 20. According to a the person I spoke to at Nishiki, a combination of high rent and low revenues (despite a great review six weeks ago by Sac News & Review's Greg Lucas) forced its closure.
However, all is not lost at the corner of L and 21st. MVP, the sports bar currently at 17th and Capitol, is moving to the spot vacated by Hashi. The owner of MVP had access to the location in the state's East End Complex through the Department of Rehabilitation's Business Enterprises Program for the Blind (BEP). That program gives those who are legally blind, opportunities to operate cafeterias, snack bars, and vending stands and routes, with the goal of becoming independent entrepreneurs capable of achieving their fullest potential through self-employment.
According to the person who picked up the phone at MVP, the BEP rules say that you can only have one location at a time. The owner had an opportunity to obtain a location at a different state building in Southern California and had to give up the spot MVP currently occupies.
MVP expects to complete the move and be open by April 1.
too bad the food and service have always sucked at MVP
