One of the best things about living in Sacramento is the great summer weather and the chance we get to enjoy cold brews outdoors.
While any of us can grab a 40 and drink at a friend's house or in the backyard, is there really anything better than going to beer gardens, brew festivals and wine tastings where you can pay a couple bucks, enjoy a wide variety of beers or wines, and spend the day in the sun.
In order to help Sacramentans enjoy this great summer activity, here's is the Cowtown Eats roundup of outdoor drinking events.Fridays - Concerts in the Park: Every Friday from May 7 to Aug. 13, local bands play a free show at Cesar Chavez Plaza (10th and J streets). While I'm sure they're all very talented, they have a great beer garden. Here's a tip. The lines for beer do get long, so plan on buying two beers when you get to the front of the line. You'll be happy you did.
Friday, May 14 - Fourth Annual Raley Field Brewfest: Raley Field turns from a cozy baseball venue to a great outdoor drinking party. Your $25 admission fee will get you ten 5oz tastings. Doors open at 7 p.m.
Saturday, May 15 - West Coast Brew Fest: Miller Park turns into a party with tickets starting at $25 and unlimited tastings from the 60 breweries expected to attend. I believe this event sold out last year, so buy your tickets early.
Saturday, May 15 - Lodi Zin Festival: Drive an hour south and enjoy 250 wines from 50 different wineries in one of the state's up and coming wine regions. Arrive early 'cause parking is limited. Tickets are $45 in advance, $55 at the door.
Saturday, June 5 - Raley's Grape Escape: The 8th annual staging of this event, Raley's Grape Escape brings together some of Sacramento's best restaurants and wineries from the 8 counties in the greater Sacramento area. Tickets are $40 in advance, $50 at the door.
Saturday, June 12 - Second Annual Brewfest in Rocklin: On Saturday, June 12, join the Rotary Club of South Place for a beer fest at Sunset Whitney Golf Course. Tickets are $25 each.Saturday, Sept. 11 - 16th Annual Brewers Festival: More than 60 breweries will be on hand and more than 150 beers will be available for sampling at Discovery Park.
This list will be updated at least every month. Do you know of a beer fest not on this list? Share with your fellow Sacramentan and leave it in the comments.
