For the most part, I stick to cheap eats and drinks on this site. However, once in a while, when I've run across a small business that I think deserves a little publicity. The Frosted Cake Shop is one of these places.
Now, we all know there are some great established bakeries in Sacramento. I love grabbing desserts from Freeport Bakery to bring to a dinner party to share. Rick's Dessert Diner is also great for an after dinner treat and I know people rave about Ettore's. But I have a sweet tooth that has room for another bakery in town.
Started by Tessa Lindow, a 25 year old baker who just recently got her own space after renting space from Old Soul, The Frosted Cake Shop is a custom bakery that makes special occasion cakes like wedding cakes or even more custom cakes that are more like edible works of art such as cakes in the shape of an igloo or purse. See her gallery here.
But looking good is just half the battle. Cakes have to taste good too.
I had the opportunity to try a couple of her cupcakes on St. Patrick's Day. (The giveaway was announced on her twitter account @FrostedCakeShop.)
I shared them with a few of my co-workers and one of them said, "Excellent cake-to-frosting ratio. Love the rich and creamy consistency of the frosting. I would definitely order a cake or cupcakes from The Frosted Cake Shop."
So if you're in the market for a custom cake anytime soon, consider shopping local and giving The Frosted Cake Shop a call.
The Frosted Cake Shop was also featured in the Sac Bee recently. Read the article here.
