Other Food News:

Bicycle Chef to reopen as bike shop brewpub - Bicycle Chef has temporarily closed until the business is transformed into Sacramento's first bike shop/microbrewery. Owner Christopher Davis-Murai, a longtime cyclist and chef, is currently hunting for a space where he can open a hybrid business that combines a full-service bike shop with a microbrewery and restaurant. Suzanne Hurt in Sac Press.

Palenque Cocina Mexicana: Muy endearing - Palenque is a ruined Mayan city in Chiapas, Mexico’s southernmost state. Palenque is also a cocina Mexicana across from the Target near Fulton Avenue. Sometimes, given the size of the parking lot Palenque shares with Gatsby’s, the smart play is to park at Target and jaywalk. It’s worth the danger—for a number of reasons. Greg Lucas in Sac News & Review.

Interview with SactoMoFo Organizer: We’ll have what he’s having - Paul Somerhausen has eaten his way around the world while living in a multitude of cities. Now that he’s in Sacramento, he satisfies his international palate by running the Sacramento Epicureans, a social group for culinary enthusiasts which meets at a different restaurant each month. He also facilitates two rotating dinner-party groups. Recently, he’s been helping to organize the SactoMoFo food-truck event that will be held at Fremont Park on April 30. You can learn more about this delicious festival, which features 20 mobile food vendors from Sacramento and the Bay Area, at www.sactomofo.com. Ann Martin Rolke in Sac News & Review.

Freshii, Yogurtagogo to open downtown - The owner of Yogurtagogo is opening a new Freshii healthy fast-food restaurant that will feature Yogurtagogo as a brand in the restaurant. Mark Anderson in Sac Biz journal.

Monday postscript: Pangaea and de Vere's - As I wrote on Sunday, Pangaea Two Brews Café and de Vere's Irish Pub are two places that deserve a close look. They take vastly different approaches - the former has an edgy, more exotic beer list, the latter focuses on mostly traditional offerings - but both do plenty of things well. One trait that shines through at both places is integrity. The owners really believe in what they are doing and seem truly committed to creating a "second home" ambience - a place to hang out, be yourself, have a good time, chat with old friends, make new friends. Blair Anthony Robertson in the Sac Bee.

Self-taught Sacramento-area chef takes his skill to the molecular level - It's the weekend before Valentine's Day, and Pajo Bruich's kitchen feels more like a laboratory than a homey spot for baking heart-shaped cookies. A bit of salmon mousse is being frozen to minus 32 degrees in a gizmo called an Anti-Griddle. It'll be topped with pink champagne that has been turned into a gel, then paired with caviar and crème fraîche. Chris Macias in the Sac Bee.
