Dining News: MVP Becomes Skybox Grill
May 02, 2013
MVP Sports Bar, located at 21st & L streets, was recently renamed Skybox Grill.
But it's not just the name that's changed. While they continue to be owned by the same parent company, they have new management, a new team and a new menu coming in May.
I spoke with their new General Manager Loren Sparks this week who told me that they expect to have a grand opening in 6 to 8 weeks.
While they'll continue to be a sports bar and plan to show UFC and boxing PPVs, they hope to differentiate themselves from the the competition on the grid like Republic, BarWest, Firestone, Coyote Tap House, etc. by catering to families and during dinner hours and they'll be a full bar at night. Sparks also says they intend to improve the service and culinary offerings.
Prior to joining Skybox Grill, Sparks worked at Humboldt Brews in Arcata for the last 5 years.
Skybox Grill doesn't have a Web site yet, but they will soon. Until then, check them out at 21st & L.

Hook & Ladder Manufacturing Company - RoShamBro’s are at it again. This time we went to a place in downtown Sacramento called Hook & Ladder Manufacturing Company. We’ve heard that this place has good beer and great mixed drinks and that they change their burger every night, sounds like a place we may be checking out more than once. So as we arrived, we sat at the bar to enjoy a brew before we were seated at the patio. (which was decorated very “recycled eclectic”) Reclaimed wood pallets for walls and rain gutters for planters were a nice touch! Now on to the burger! On RoShamBurger.
The Green Boheme - Raw is Good - Whenever I invited one of my omnivore foodie friends to go and try out raw food at The Green Boheme, I'd get a funny face and a "No, thanks." But I have a curiosity to try most food (except insects) and so I had been wanting to try The Green Boheme since it opened a few years ago. Now I don't have a fear of dining alone, but this was going to be a new experience, the kind you want to share with a companion. Then last month I had been talking with Fox 40's Bethany Crouch. She had been doing Green Boheme's 30 Day Raw Challenge and was loving it. Last month she had set up a vegan/raw meal at The Plum Cafe and this month she set up a raw dinner at Green Boheme. Here was my perfect opportunity. Catherine Enfield on Munchie Musings.
