Dining News: Streets of London's Food Truck Launches This Week

Streets_of_london

The Sac Bee got the scoop last week that Streets of London was launching a food truck. Streets didn't waste any time, and are launching this week, reports Kurt Chirbas in the Sac Bee.

Streets of London plans on putting its new food truck on the road next week for a "gentle launch," according to Marty Hutton, executive chef at the English-style pub...

Hutton had initially wanted an actual double-decker bus. After determining that compliance requirements would make it too expensive, he spent nine months searching for a food truck.

He stumbled across the current truck while scanning Craig's List on the way back from the Bay Area. Hutton placed a call to its owner and headed to San Jose.

Two Dazzling Meals: Aïoli Bodega Española and Tuli Bistro - It’s easy to get caught up in new-restaurant fever and forget about the more well-established eateries in town that consistently crank out excellent cuisine. But two restaurants that shouldn’t drop off any food-lovers’ list are Aïoli Bodega Española on the corner of L and 18th streets; and bustling little Tuli Bistro on the corner of S and 21st streets. The hottest frozen treats - F ourth of July is summer's highpoint holiday – and it might mean a four-day weekend for some folks. The forecast? We'll likely still be dealing with triple-digit temperatures. Here's one way to beat the heat: frozen treats. They'll cool you off. They'll dazzle your taste buds. Maybe you'll find one of your favorites on my list of seven standouts. Best of all, nearly everything recommended is less than $6. Featuring Ginger Elizabeth Chocolates, Devine Gelateria & Cafe, Osaka-Ya, Hagen's Orange Freeze, Whitey's Jolly Kone, Vic's Ice Cream & Gunther's Ice Cream. Blair Anthony Robertson in the Sac Bee.

Try It: Hilda's Bakery in Auburn - I bought a fabulous Butterscotch Wreath recently at Hilda’s Bakery, a cozy little establishment on Lincoln Way in Auburn. Dotted with chopped walnuts and drizzled with a pretty glaze, it was a crusty, sweet breakfast indulgence (and a real bargain at only $6 – it easily fed four people). Kira O'Donnell in Sac Mag.

Counter Culture: Tasty dishes draw a crowd at Fair Oaks' Sushimono - The restaurant is well-organized, modestly decorated and "cozy," to use a term favored by real-estate professionals. Two mute TVs flickered, music played over the sound system. Is that rap? The menu is reasonably priced, explaining why the dining room and outdoor patio quickly filled with sushi-hungry lunchers from neighborhood homes and businesses...Admittedly, we are not expertly versed on the subjects of sushi, sashimi or nigiri, but we do know what looks and tastes good. At Sushimono, that would be most everything we sampled, though we avoided the items containing "krab," a personal quirk. Allen Pierleoni in the Sac Bee.
