A few weekends ago, I was driving down 19th St. and noticed out of the corner of my eye that the For Lease signs had come down from the windows at the building that used to house Sweetwater Restaurant & Bar. But since this isn't my day job, I don't always have time to chase down all the little things I notice, so I sent the tip over to to Sac Biz Journal real estate reporter Ben van der Meer (whom I used to deal with when he covered the State Capitol and I worked there).
Given its proximity to the very competent Taka's Sushi, which is located a block away at 18th & S, I'm not sure that that's the first type of restaurant I would have chosen to go there. But maybe the new owner/chef will surprise us with something amazing.
The restaurant has been empty since Sweetwater Restaurant & Bar ended its nearly 3 year run in that space in Aprin 2012. Before that, the space housed a midtown outpost for Fins seafood restaurant.
At least one chef has looked at the space and decided against opening a restaurant there. Bacon & Butter's Billy Zoellin considered the space and eventually decided to move his restaurant in Tahoe Park (which should open in the next month or two.)
When I learn more about the new restaurant, I'll pass it along.
