Dining News: Elk Grove's Double Nickel Smokhouse is 'a Real Fumble'
December 22, 2014
The critics from the two largest newspapers in the region have reached a consensus - Double Nickel Smokehouse, partly owned by Elk Grove native and Chicago Bears Linebacker Lance Briggs isn't good, at least not yet.
Here's the latest harsh review in by Garrett McCord in the Sac News & Review:
Deep-fried nuggets of catfish, however, were served a mess—devoid of any seasoning, the unnaturally squishy fish molted their greasy batter jackets at the merest touch.
The mac and cheese was, frankly, awful. Bland and lacking quality cheese, I’m sure it will have its fans but I’m not one of them.
The corn cake arrived dry and turned to powder when picked up—perhaps serving it with butter or honey might have helped but none was provided.
That's not to say everything was bad. McCord liked the collard greens, brisket and fried pickles, but enough went wrong for him to award Double Nickel a one star rating.
