Sacramento's first outdoor German-style beer garden celebrates its first anniversary on Thursday with $1 pretzels and $1 beers (after you purchase your first beer at regular price).
Midtown BeerGarten is owned by Sean Deerfield, who also owns Old Sac's River City Saloon.
Prior to their opening, the outdoor beer garden's innovative design using shipping containers to house the kitchen and bathrooms caused many delays at the city's planning dept. Instead of speeding up the process, it actually slowed it down.
Since then, Federalist Public House has also successfully opened an outdoor beer garden using shipping containers as the base materials for its building. It opened in late 2014.

El Dorado Epicurean showcases local restaurants - For those looking to celebrate California Restaurant Month beyond downtown Sacramento, El Dorado County is hosting its own set of festivities. For the fifth year, the El Dorado County Visitors Authority will host The El Dorado Epicurean, billed as "a progressive dinner for culinary adventurers." The event will be held Jan. 25.
