33 Sacramento Restaurants that Closed Forever in 2015
December 30, 2015
With an improving economy, Sacramento's restaurant scene has been on an upswing. By my count, more than twice as many restaurants opened this year than closed.
However, we've lost some notable ones over the year. Here are some of the highlights:
1. Trick Pony
This restaurant may have been doomed from the start. Even before it opened in Summer 2014, the first owner created ill will locally by slamming the Sacramento pizza scene. The restaurant, even after numerous chef and management changes, never survived. It closed in April, replaced later in the year by Localis. Click here for more information.
2. Capital Dime
People talk about Location, Location & Location being 3 important factors to restaurant and real estate success. However, the high profile spot at 1801 L Street saw its second restaurant closed in 2015. First, L Wine Lounge and now Capital Dime. The restaurant also saw a number of chef and management changes in order to right the ship, but none stuck. The space is currently being remodeled to become Saddle Rock. 3. Wahoo's Fish Tacos
Open only 8 months, the chain fish taco restaurant never seemed like a good fit in Midtown, which (Chipotle aside) seems to prefer local restaurants. It closed in late March, and later became Broderick Midtown. Click here for more information.
4. Bistro Michel
Once critically acclaimed, Bistro Michel closed in April after changes at chef and in the management. The restaurant has been replaced by TableVine, which brought back Bistro Michel chef Scott McNamara. Click here for more information.
5. Izakaya Daikoku
The midtown izakaya closed in June when owner Sai Wong decided to change concepts. Wong, who also owns the popular Ramen House Ryujin across the street at 19th & S, decided to open another ramen restaurant at the same spot, this one called confusingly Ramen House Raijin.
